Laborers About The Masters Business

Ministries International

5127 Laurel Street, New Orleans, Louisiana  70115

cell/701-7316 or cell/723-9369

Laborers About The Master’s Business Ministries International (LAMB Ministries), is a faith-based Christian ministry to impoverished inner city Greater New Orleans, Louisiana's youth, children and families and also to members of the New Orleans Business Community.  LAMB Ministries is led by Directors Chaplain Hy McEnery and Libba McEnery.  This ministry had its earliest beginnings in 1996. The ministry was registered with the State of Louisiana as a Charitable Institution, with an EIN number of 010560277, during the first quarter of 2002.

Laborers About The Master's Business Ministries International (LAMB Ministries) received tax exempt status in the year 2007, under section 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) of the Internal Revenue Code.  LAMB Ministries is qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, and transfers of gifts under section 2055, 3106, or 2522 of the Code.

The Mission of LAMB Ministries is to evangelize in the Christian Faith and to disciple youth and their families, as well as members of the Business Community, in the context of urban community and neighborhood leadership.  LAMB Ministries assists youth and families in educational and academic growth. LAMB Ministries meets the needs, challenges, hopes and dreams of the whole child and teen, as well as their families.  LAMB Ministries meets the very often desperate food, clothing and shelter needs of very needy inner city children and families in New Orleans.  LAMB seeks to lead as many people, old and young, rich and poor, and from any people group, to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to disciple them in His Word, the Bible.

The need for the benevolent work of LAMB Ministries was recognized by Chaplain Hy and Libba McEnery, who were staff members of Child Evangelism Fellowship, New Orleans, in September of 2005.  The devastating effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on impoverished youth and families in the Greater New Orleans area both revealed and created direct needs which were beyond the spiritually focused CEF Mission Statement and ministry capacity.  As commanded in His Word, God’s love demanded action:

“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”  - 1 John 3: 16-18

Children and families lost their homes and even each other.  Many of our CEF ministry youth and their families ended up homeless and without basic necessities after Katrina. They fell drastically behind in school and often times had no food or clothing. God’s love demanded action and LAMB Ministries was transformed to meet the desperate needs of desperate New Orleans inner city youth and their families. The desperate and highly impoverished circumstances of many New Orleans people have continued and will continue. In the vicious cycle of poverty and need in New Orleans, Louisiana, more and more young people come into the ministry influence of LAMB Ministries. It is the Goal of LAMB Ministries, in partnership with local and out-of-state Churches, as well as parachurch ministries, to evangelize and to disciple in God’s Word to those young people and their families and to meet their immediate emergency needs. It is also our goal to reach and disciple adults from the local Business Community.

LAMB Ministries owns two ministry vans, for the very necessary task of regularly transporting impoverished youth to ministry functions several times every week, weekly church events and frequent missions and camping trips. One of these vans holds eight passengers and the other holds twelve, including two baby seats. LAMB vehicles are not large enough to carry all of the young people who are desirous of attending these functions. There is a great need for a small bus or an extra large shuttle style van. This badly needed large ministry vehicle which will safely transport youth to and from the many ministry events and trips is an immediate and a top priority project.

LAMB Ministries uses 1325 Eagle Street, “Eagle’s Wings”, as its Ministry Center. This cottage, another house next door (which is currently rented) and two empty lots across the street belong to Hy McEnery and Libba McEnery, who are trying to redeem the property and donate it debt free to LAMB.

Other ministry work is done out of the Laurel Street Bed and Breakfast, which is owned by Hy McEnery and Libba McEnery, who are currently the Directors and staff of LAMB Ministries. The B&B alone is not adequate for the ministry needs, but works well for LAMB’s outreach to the New Orleans Business Community. When "Eagle’s Wings" became available, LAMB's ministry to inner city youth moved there. It is located within the impoverished inner city neighborhood of Carrolton in New Orleans. It was badly needed for LAMB to grow and to reach and help more youth and families. This building is in less than perfect condition, but has adequate parking and rooms for classrooms and offices. It has a working kitchen. The volunteer Church relief teams which LAMB brings into New Orleans have helped with the repair and upkeep of the building. The building might even be used to house the teams. It is possible even to charge the teams a small nightly fee, which would pay for utilities, taxes and upkeep. One bedroom and bath has been reserved and furnished for visiting Missionaries or other Ministry guests. At this time, there is a leak in the plumbing and the heater does not work at all.

The goals and objectives of LAMB Ministries are to conduct the following benevolent efforts for the purpose of obeying and glorifying God and benefiting needy New Orleans families:

1)     To evangelize and disciple youth and their families in the Christian faith, and to establish them in local churches

2)     Sponsorship of needy youth to faith-based camping programs

3)     Preparing youth for leadership in their local communities

4)     After-school and summer meal programs

1.    Basic life skills training

2.    Family, career and addiction counseling programs

3.    Preventative health and nutritional instruction

4.    Hurricane/disaster preparedness, relief and rebuilding

5.    Recruiting, directing and housing volunteer relief and rebuilding teams

6.    Distribution of hurricane/disaster relief supplies

7.    Conducting neighborhood hurricane/disaster preparedness surveys

8.    Providing emergency housing, food and household supplies for needy youth and their families

9.    Search and rescue in the event of disaster. (NOTE:  LAMB Ministries coordinated and achieved the rescue of over five hundred flood victims in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Staff members are members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and are permitted to stay in New Orleans for the purposes of search and rescue in case of hurricanes or national emergency.)

Many of the goals of LAMB Ministries are currently being met, however, in order to reach all of the goals and objectives of LAMB Ministries, these several needs must be met:

1.    A small bus or large shuttle style van

2.    Development of the two lots connected with "Eagle’s Wings."  (LAMB Ministries would like to include a limited sports program for impoverished teens.)

3.    More volunteers and staff.  Modest salaries for staff.

LAMB Ministries accomplishes goals and objectives through partnering with local and non-local churches, parachurch groups and volunteer agencies. LAMB has cooperative relationships with many local churches and Christian ministries such as, New Orleans Bible Church, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Trinity Christian Community and New Orleans Mission.  LAMB  works together with these and other local Greater New Orleans area churches such as, Celebration Church, First Baptist Church of New Orleans, Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church, New Genesis Bible Church, and Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, to coordinate relief and rebuilding work, for mission groups, evangelism and discipleship. Because LAMB Ministries does not have adequate facilities, most of our out-of-state relief groups and volunteers are housed at New Orleans Bible Church or Trinity Christian Community during their mission stay in New Orleans.

LAMB recruits and coordinates volunteer ministry and relief teams to work in the ongoing rebuilding effort in post Katrina New Orleans. Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated New Orleans, Louisiana, in August and September, 2005, LAMB Ministries of New Orleans has recruited and coordinated nearly 100 relief teams from all over America. The average number of volunteers in each team was thirty. Through these hard-working volunteers, LAMB Ministries has been involved in the gutting or rebuilding of twenty-five homes, two businesses, two Churches and one ministry center.

In the year 2012, LAMB Ministries brought in and coordinated the relief work and Evangelism efforts of seven churches and parachurch groups. Many inner city, impoverished young people and adults put their faith in Christ alone for Eternal Life through these efforts. The main purpose of bringing in Church Teams is Evangelism.

LAMB Ministries, with the benefit of generous contributions, distributed bountiful Thanksgiving food baskets, as well as Bibles and other Christian Bible study helps, to forty highly impoverished families. LAMB Ministry teens went along with LAMB staff members to give out the food baskets and Bibles. The young people carried the Thanksgiving food into each home, prayed with each family and gave out the Bibles. There was heartfelt gratitude and joy all around as each family received the gifts of God’s love.

At Christmas time, LAMB Ministries gave hams to twenty-five needy families as well as Christmas toys and stockings to one hundred needy young people. With donations from two families, LAMB Ministries took nineteen the most impoverished ministry boys and helpers to The Celebration of Lights and Amusement Park at City Park! They were greatly blessed with the experience!

LAMB Ministries has a core group of about fifty impoverished inner city NOLA teens and children who attend classes, mission trips, camping trips and Bible Clubs regularly. This number is ever-changing and growing, as the young people bring friends and family members into the group. Some move away or even go on to college to become leaders themselves. Every Tuesday night LAMB provides a huge, home cooked hot meal followed by a challenging Bible Study to about thirty of these young people. There are usually seven or more teachers, drivers, cooks and volunteers who also participate in the weekly event. Three of these are paid for their help. This Bible Study and dinner is held at "Eagle’s Nest."  This has been ongoing since the year 2000.

Every Monday Night, LAMB Ministries hosts and leads a Bible Study and the same huge, home cooked hot meal to 14-20 adult members of the New Orleans Business Community. This weekly event is held at Hy and Libba McEnery's B&B home at 5127 Laurel Street, NOLA, 70115. It has been ongoing since 2009. A number of adults have trusted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior at this very special LAMB Ministries Bible Study! Chaplain Hy McEnery is the Bible Teacher and Libba McEnery is the chef and hostess.

Another very interesting LAMB Ministries focus is Chaplain Hy McEnery's two hour daily politically incorrect Christian Radio Talk Show titled The Founder’s Show, which is heard daily on the ESPN Sport’s Radio Network, 1560 AM. Hy McEnery reaches several thousand listeners per program on this secular radio station. Many listeners call in with questions. The show features his "Chaplain BaBa Founder’s Moment and Gospel Moment" every hour. His message is a strong invitation to trust Christ every hour!

Regarding LAMB Ministries to inner city youth, LAMB's leaders encourage and actively help the young people to stay in school. Everything possible is done to help them succeed. In the fall of 2012, LAMB actively helped at least ten children enroll in school and procured their required public school uniforms, as well as school supplies for thirty young people. These youth are succeeding. Most of LAMB's core group of teenagers and twenty to twenty-five year olds have jobs. Several have babies and young children, themselves, who have now come under the Christian influence of LAMB Ministries.

Young people who have been a part of LAMB Ministries have grown strong in Faith in God and in Christian character. Inner city youth who are ministered to through LAMB are free of drugs and are not participating in criminal activities. Many of their friends, neighbors and associates, and even family members, are involved in crime and some have been shot down in the streets of New Orleans because of their involvement in criminal activities. Some, who are known well by LAMB's young people as well as by its leaders and staff, have refused to be a part of the ministry, and instead have actually been the shooters. One of our young men, who stopped coming to Bible Study, is in jail.

LAMB Ministries continues to bring in and distribute food, clothing and supplies to many needy New Orleans families. LAMB continues to provide academic tutoring, and spiritual and emotional counseling to impoverished youth.

All trained volunteer leadership and Board members of LAMB Ministries must have passed criminal records checks. All volunteer leadership and Board members must have graduated from accredited four year colleges or universities.
